Anil Kumble

India

Anil Kumble, the current Indian captain, is one of only three men to have captured over 600 Test wickets and one of two men to have taken all ten wickets in an innings. He bowls swift leg-spin and has been a crucial member of the Indian side since his debut in 1990 in Manchester.

He has also played some 269 one-day internationals for his country, taking 337 wickets before falling out of favour with the selectors but he remains, despite his advancing years, a key component of a successful Test side.

He took all ten wickets against Pakistan in Delhi in 1999, equalling Jim Laker's achievement for England against Australia.

Another milestone was achieved when in the summer of 2007, he scored his maiden century at the Brit Oval as India beat England 1-0. He is a technically correct batsman, very strong on the offside and rarely gives his wicket away. Along with that century, he has also hit four fifties in Tests.

He was appointed captain for the series against Pakistan and Australia, impressing many with his leadership. Although his side were beaten 2-1 in Australia, they outplayed Pakistan to return a 1-0 win.
