Paul Nixon is an experienced wicket-keeper and a useful left-hand bat. He has played first class cricket for 17 years and was widely thought to have missed the boat as far as an international career was concerned, given that he was playing in the same era as Alec Stewart and Jack Russell.
However, he was given a shock recall to the squad for the one-day section of England's current tour of Australia following the inability of Geraint Jones and Chris Read to hold down a place. He made his debut in the Twenty20 international, keeping tidily and scoring an unbeaten 31, in the process hitting the only six of England's innings.
His experience of Twenty20 success with Leicester could help his one-day chances with England, despite being dismissed for a duck on his full one-day debut in Melbourne.
He travelled to the World Cup with England, playing in each game before he was replaced in the England set up by Matthew Prior and Phil Mustard under new coach Peter Moores.
